TAWOW! WELCOME!

The intention for Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School is to support you in learning ways to honour the roots of yoga while also empowering you with a thorough understanding of trauma-informed community care.

Our trainings are open to anyone open & ready to dive into anti-oppressive practices, on & off the mat.

As a student, you will learn to bring Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology into the scope of your practice. The Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School is dedicated to providing opportunities for self-reflection as a means of enhancing self-awareness.

With trauma being a sensitive topic, each student is required to complete an application for enrollment with special attention on how you plan to support yourself, mind-body-spirit-heart, as you steep in learning, and most importantly, unlearning.

Trauma-Informed. Anti-Oppressive. Accessible. Eight Limb Yoga.

Indigenous-led by Director & Lead Faculty Dr. Melissa Jay
along with an Incredible Faculty

Our trainings are accredited by Yoga Alliance & a Member School with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT)

*We are currently working on accreditation with IAYT with the intention of offering Yoga Therapist Certification*

TESTIMONIALS

Randi "I truly appreciated the ability to learn & share from my lived experience as an Indigenous learner/practitioner. I was able to feel at ease & find space to explore & release what was not serving the highest & best version of myself. I intend to bring this forward while integrating a two-eyed seeing approach to my teaching. Thank you."
Lacey “This has been such an amazing experience. The incredible self-growth I’ve had has made it worth it and then on top of that the skills, tools, knowledge, and experience for my professional practice has been priceless and more than I’ve ever imagined. I’m so inspired to continue this journey and bring it into all aspects of my life."
Kalli  "This has been one of the best decisions of my life, not only in helping me grow into a yoga teacher, but helping me understand so much more about myself.  It's been such a valuable investment in ME, & the connections we've made as a group have been so incredibly nurturing and special."
David
"Just say yes!
The learnings, connections, self-growth and discovery that you will experience will change your life! Also, the absolute best teachers and faculty you could ask for!"

A MESSAGE FROM DR. MELISSA JAY

Dr. MELISSA JAY
she/her

Tân'si, Hello!

Be who you needed when you were younger. This message guides me.

As a Nehiyaw member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, it is a joy to walk alongside incredible souls who are dedicated to self-awareness & community care. I honour my ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐍ Nehiyawe (Cree) culture, by sitting with Elders/Knowledge Keepers, and decolonizing myself by infusing spirit into everything.

As a psychologist & assistant professor, it is a privilege to decolonize community care and at the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School it is a joy to collaborate alongside my inspiring friends who are faculty!

With goodness,
Dr. Melissa Jay

My yoga credentials include: C-IAYT, E-RYT, RCYT, RPYT, YACEP

We cannot wait to learn and, most importantly, unlearn, with you!

Please reach out to Alex (she/her) with any questions ✨

Dr. Melissa Jay

is an Indigenous, Nehiyaw-Métis member of the Métis Nation of Alberta. Canmore Counselling is located Chuwapchipchiyân Kudi Bi (translated from Îyârhe Nakoda as “shooting at the willows”), colonially known as Canmore. We are located the beautiful Rocky Mountains which is considered Treaty 7 land, the traditional territory of the Îyârhe Nakoda, including the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations, and home of Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III. As an act of reconciliation and decolonization, may we work together to answer the TRC's Calls to Action: Truth & Reconciliation Commission Reports and Findings.

At Canmore Counselling we are also priveleged to be yoga students, practitoners, and guides. Our offerings are dedicated to honouring the root of yoga and learning from and amplifying the voices of South Asian practitioners and teachers whenever possible. We are grateful for the eight limbs of yoga, as taught by Patanjali. It is a joy to walk alongside our incredible alumni of the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School as they create opportunities for care, connection & curiosity within their communities.
